Experiencing life… without the ‘gram
Some friends asked me why I haven’t yet shared my Argentine adventures in social media (except a random photo or story). The answer? cos I chose to focus on being present with my family while I was away rather than spend my time choosing the right filter on Instagram.
My brother in law told me there’s a service you pay for in which they photoshop you in different cities so you can post on Instagram as if you were actually traveling (!!!). This not only made me go WTF but also made me realise that I chose to live my life fully and share what I feel like on social without any pressure or expectations... rather than live just to post on SM and show the world what a great time I’m having.
It low-key freaks me out to think we’re now seeking experiences (e.g. traveling to exotic places, drinking sparkling rainbow lattes, eating unicorn cakes) just to snap a pic for our ‘gram rather than for the experience itself.
As with all things, technology and social media are neutral... it’s up to us how much importance and energy we give choose to give it.
And I kinda draw the line whenever I feel in the like my digital life is taking precedence over my actual life (which happens more often than I’d like tbh). Hope you don’t mind me sharing my stream of consciousness with ya. Just had to get it off my chest.
And now that I’m back home, relaxing in my bath, I can’t wait to share with you all the cool places I discovered in Buenos Aires... check them out on my Instagram!
Big love xx
